Mission Cancer + Blood

World-Class Cancer Care
In Your Community

Hear From Our Physicians

As you or a loved one fight the unimaginable, we are right by your side, and right next door. Mission is a community-based healthcare team of cancer and blood specialists ready to provide you with the best possible care and treatment options for your needs.

Since 1981, we’ve been quietly serving those with cancer and blood disorders in all of central Iowa’s major medical facilities. The level of cancer care we provide — with evidence-based treatments, tumor boards, genetic counseling, and clinical trials — matches or exceeds the care available in any community oncology practice anywhere in the country.

Cancer Care. For Life.

  • Genetic counseling and testing available at Mission Cancer + Blood

Cancer genetic counseling allows you and your health care providers to understand and be proactive about your personal cancer risks, particularly when there is a family history of cancer or a previous diagnosis. During a visit, a Mission genetic counselor collects your personal and family health history and uses this information to determine the chance there could be a hereditary cancer condition running in the family. Your genetic counselor can help you decide whether genetic testing is right for you. Read more.

Phil Stover, chief executive officer, Mission Cancer + Blood

Almost six months ago, we joined University of Iowa Health Care with a shared vision of creating a statewide network of cancer care to keep high-quality cancer care close to home. Since that time, our teams have been tirelessly learning, collaborating, and building the infrastructure needed to support that vision. I want to thank and recognize the Mission team for the remarkable progress we’ve made together. Read more.

Mission Cancer + Blood is now officially part of University of Iowa Health Care, paving the way for a statewide comprehensive cancer care network aimed at keeping high-quality cancer care local for Iowans.

UI Health Care purchased Mission’s assets on Dec. 31, 2024, several months after the organizations first announced their intent to join forces to fight cancer in Iowa. Mission has more than 20 community cancer clinics across Iowa that are now backed by UI Health Care’s National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, bringing the most advanced oncology care closer to home for more Iowans, particularly in rural areas. First set of UI Health Care and Mission Cancer + Blood joint clinical trials opened this summer

University of Iowa Health Care and Mission Cancer + Blood joined forces in Dec. 2024, with the shared vision of providing more Iowans with access to high-quality cancer care and clinical trials, closer to home. Now, less than a year later, the organizations have launched a joint clinical trial program, marking a major milestone toward bringing this vision to life.

Opened jointly in August 2025, the first two trials at both UI Health Care and Mission are interventional treatment trials of innovative medicines for patients with large-cell lymphoma. Each month, the portfolio of joint studies will expand for patient enrollment across Iowa. There are at least seven trials being prepared to open jointly in the coming months. Read More.
Beginning June 2, 2025 you will see a change in our medical records platform. We are converting some of our Mission Cancer + Blood locations and patient records to the EPIC system currently used by UI Health Care.

We have recently transitioned to a new electronic health record system. While we work through these new processes, you may experience longer-than-expected wait times at your appointments or on the phone. Thank you for your patience as we adjust to a new system and thank you for trusting us with your care.
