Dr. Sydney Brehany and Dr. Justin Buzick to join Mission Cancer + Blood
We are thrilled to share that Iowa natives Dr. Sydney Brehany and Dr. Justin Buzick will be joining Mission Cancer + Blood in 2025.
Dr. Sydney Brehany, a proud native of Algona, Iowa, brings an impressive background to our team. She earned her Biochemistry degree from Wartburg College and completed medical school at Creighton University. Dr. Brehany’s extensive training includes an Internal Medicine residency and a Hematology/Medical Oncology fellowship at the University of Colorado. After practicing in Colorado, Dr. Brehany and her husband are excited to return to Iowa. She specializes in breast and gynecological cancers, as well as hereditary cancer syndromes. Outside of her practice, Dr. Brehany loves spending time with her family, running, and baking.
Dr. Justin Buzick, originally from Pella, Iowa, (Go Dutch!) also has a remarkable journey. He completed his undergraduate studies at Wartburg College before earning his medical degree at the University of North Dakota. His extensive training includes an Internal Medicine residency and two fellowships—one in palliative care and hospice, and the other in hematology/oncology—at the University of Iowa Health Care, where he served as chief fellow. Dr. Buzick’s clinical interests focus on genitourinary and breast cancers, alongside quality improvement and addressing the side effect burden of cancer treatments. In his personal life, Dr. Buzick enjoys spending time with his fiancé and their two Goldendoodles, Penelope and Waffles, solving escape rooms, working out, and snuggling with his newborn niece.
Join us in giving a warm welcome to Dr. Brehany and Dr. Buzick as they return to their Iowa roots and bring their expertise to Mission Cancer + Blood. We can’t wait to see the incredible impact they will make on our patients and community!
